Pressure Drop Analysis and Flow Distribution Design

At Slidian, we perform CFD studies of pressure losses in pipelines and piping networks of any type, taking into account the specific characteristics of the fluids flowing through them, whether liquids, gases, non-Newtonian fluids, or even multiphase mixtures.

Equipment Sizing

Our analyses consider the complete geometry of the installation, including all elements that may affect flow behavior and generate additional pressure losses, such as valves, bends, contractions, junctions, and fittings.

We evaluate system performance under different operating conditions to obtain an accurate estimation of the total pressure drop.

This allows us to determine whether selected equipment, such as pumps, fans, or compressors, is capable of overcoming system losses and ensuring proper operation.

When excessive pressure losses are identified, we propose solutions aimed at optimizing the installation, including:

Redesign of areas with recirculation zones or local flow blockages

Modifications to piping layouts to reduce flow resistance

Geometric optimization of bends, restrictions, and other critical components

Repositioning of components to minimize hydraulic impact

Based on the results obtained, we determine the optimal sizing of equipment, ensuring that pumping and ventilation systems operate under safe and efficient conditions while avoiding oversizing or insufficient capacity.

Piping Network Balancing

In complex piping systems with multiple inlets and outlets, we analyze flow distribution across different branches using CFD simulations, providing more realistic results than traditional analytical methods.

This enables us to identify flow imbalances and propose improvements to achieve a more uniform and efficient system through:

Adjustment of pipe diameters or controlled restrictions

Redesign of local sections containing bends or fittings

Integration of guide vanes or flow-directing elements

Once modifications are implemented, simulations are repeated until the most balanced and optimized solution is achieved.
